- A2 through A9 calls do not belong to the US but to other countries. I
- believe the 1x1 calls starting with N are already assigned to aircraft.
- (Note I said the 1x1 ones!) I am certain the 1x1 starting with W
- are also assigned. You can forget getting a 1x1 call.

-
- Good point, Bob. I guess you'd have to operate portable if you wanted a
- suffix. And if you wanted to keep your call as short as possible, I'd suggest
- Italy so that you could check into your ARES net as N/I. Of course, if it's a
- two meter net you'd better take a *BIG* beam with you.
-
- > I would not be called when the sixes are listed for that rare island
- > dx.
-
- Since you'll be in Italy for the ARES net, your best bet would probably be to
- head down to Libya and operate as N/5A for the DX nets and wait for them to
- call for fives. But then I guess that would make *you* the DX, wouldn't it?
-
- BTW, did we decide on the nomenclature for these calls. Are they 0x0's? ;-)

- SYNOPSIS OF ACTIVITY
- --------------------
-
- Solar activity was very low with only a short series of
- uncorrelated, small B-class x-ray bursts. Region 7689 (S11W38)
- was numbered today.
-
- Solar activity forecast: solar activity is expected to be
- very low to low. Regions 7685 (S08W57) and 7688 (N16E60) have
- slim chances of producing isolated C-class flares.
-
- The geomagnetic field has been at mostly active levels
- for the past 24 hours. Minor to major storm levels were
- observed at high latitudes. Energetic electron fluxes
- (Gt 2 mev) were at high to very high levels during the period.
-
- Geophysical activity forecast: the geomagnetic field is
- expected to be unsettled to active for the next 24 hours then
- mostly unsettled for the remainder of the period. High latitudes
- should continue to see minor storm levels tapering off to
- unsettled to active by the end of the forecast period.

- HF propagation conditions were below normal over most
- regions. MUFs continue to be depressed by up to about 35
- percent. Propagation was worst for transauroral circuits.
- Similar conditions are expected over the next 24 to 48 hours
- before conditions begin improving. The transition from
- degraded propagation to near-normal propagation is expected to
- be a gradual process covering at least several days.

- I got a variety of responses for a car which would be good for 100 watts

- interference from car into receiver and from transmitter into auto

- Diesels and the Taurus were among those favored. Anyone else have comments

- Hello ALL
-
- The radio amateurs-travellers club named "Russian Robinson
- Club" interested in world island program - IOTA is applied
- to separate radioamateurs, associations, funds and also
- clubs, interests of which are equally connected to the
- above mentioned club.
- The club "RRC" ( Russian Robinson Club ) created at the
- beginning of 1993 rendered support in organization more
- than ten island arctic DX' pedition in 1993, two of which
- are NEW IOTA:
- 4K2RRC (EU 019), 4K3RRC (EU 082), 4K4RRC (AS 005), 4K5RRC
- (AS 025), 4K3GW (EU 161), 4K3WQ (EU 162), 4K3/RW3GW
- (EU 082), 4K3/RA1ZA, 4K3/RA1WQ, UW1ZZ/A (EU 082), UW1ZZ/A
- (EU 161), 4K4DV (AS 029).
- During this year Russian island national diploma program
- (RRA) has been developed like national island program of
- Italy (IIA), Spain (IDEA), France (DIFM), Portugal (DIP),
- Polska (SP IOTA A).
- Competitors of this program have receive already more than
- 150 diplomas. We greatly hope that interest to Russian
- national island "RRA" will be increased every year. Besides
- it a list with separate numbering of Russian islands
- according to "RRA" has been developed already.
- Club "RRC" publishes magazin - report every quarter which
- informers about members of this club; last island, polar and
- sea expedition (.../mm); IOTA - News; database of Russian
- island stations, antarctic station (4K1); diplomas and other
- news.
- Every Sunday at 08:00 utc 14.120 +/- QRM this club organizes
- different discussions.
- The club "RRC" includes a great number of polar explorers,
- islanders, navigators which had a lot of expedition to
- islands, Antarctica (4K1) and (.../mm). Besides it there is
- a lot of radioamateurs interested in IOTA and "RRA".
- At present this club experiences a great financial problems
- for arranging expeditions to Russian islands and other places.
- There are wonderful opportunities to visit many islands among
- which rare available and desert, which are of great interes-
- ting opportunities and suggestions.
-
- This club has many problems with industrial radio equipment
- which is sometimes necessary in expeditions. Now many of
- radioamateurs work with home-made apparatus which often break
- at unsuitable moment. Sometimes there are rare possibilities
- to visit islands of Arctic and Antarctic basin. The club has
- a wonderful developed diploma program but financial means are
- greatly need for its realization.
- Council of "RRC" applies to sponsor, radioamateurs, organiza-
- tions, associations, funds and clubs to render any financial
- support in carrying out islands expeditions.
- We shall also be thankful to all who give us any used (second-
- hand) industrial radio equipment for its further using in dif-
- ferent expedition.
- In all cases any sponsor will receive a description of events,
- photos, slides or videofilm from the participants of DX' pedi-
- tions.
- The sponsors indicate in their agreement what they want to
- have in return for their financial support or equipment. All
- those who will render any support in any cases they'll be
- free of charge subscribers of our magazine-report "Russian
- Robinson News". "RRC" invites all interested HAMs from diffe-
- rent countries of the world to arrange joint expedition to the
- islands of Russia.
-
- "RRC" can help to arrange any visit to any island of Russia and
- to settle all organization problems. Wait for your suggestions !

- How often have you heard such exchanges:
-
- DX: QRZ contest, this is Lima One Delta
-
- US: (huh??) Your call again?
-
- DX: L1D
-
- US: (geez, a new one...) WB0X
-
- DX: Station WB0X something?
-
- US: Willy Baker Zero X-ray.
-
- DX: Willy Baker Zero X-ray, full call please...
-
-
- Aren't you glad you have a traditional call? Don't you wish
- everyone else have them too? :-)

- You would have found lots of 10m phone activity into South America
- and the Pacific during the March 5 weekend (ARRL DX contest).
-
- My log shows P4, PJ9, YV, ZP, V2, XE, LU, PY, KH6, CE, VP2V, V7,
- KL7, T30, HP, HI, KP4, KG4, JA and CX on 10 meters phone last Sunday.
-
- Granted, 15m and 20m were better into the rest of the world that
- weekend, but 10m is far from "dead" yet. Maybe next year :-).
